This standard 1960s motel is handy for the Castro, the Lower Haight, and the Mission. It s one of those no frills, what you see is what you get places, simple and very serviceable, and quiet, given its prime location. Free parking is a plus, and cable TV, too.

^Tennis Free public tennis courts abound in the city. Contact the Recreation montague spa and Park Department for the one nearest you. Golden Gate Park has 21 courts, for which a small fee is charged, but you can book in advance. Most public outdoor courts are open from sunrise to sunset. Indoor courts are the purview of private tennis clubs, with membership required. d San Francisco Recreation and Park Department: (415) 831-2700 Golden Gate Park: (415) 753-7001

Sunset District Like its counterpart, the Richmond District (see p101), this neighborhood was part of the Outer Lands and is purely residential, consisting of row upon row of neat, look alike houses. Yet, like the entire area along the ocean, this district is subject to a great deal of gray weather. Its one claim to fame is Sutro Tower, the pronged red and white television antenna that resembles something out of a science fiction movie. d Between Sloat Blvd & Golden montague spa Gate Park and Stanyan St & the Pacific Ocean Map C5
